Grand Rapids Rampage News Release

The Rampage have signed former Grand Valley State kicker Dave Hendrix to a two-year contract after a kicking tryout this morning at the Soccer Spot. Among the players at the tryout were former Rampage kicker Nick Gatto and former Philadelphia Soul kicker Ken Hinsley.

Hendrix played one game for the Rampage in 2004 against the Columbus Destroyers (5/14) and connected on all four extra point attempts. He also was on the team's practice squad.

With GVSU, Hendrix was named First-Team Division II All-American and was a member of the back-to-back national champions. In 2003, he led the Lakers with 133 points scored on 58-of-64 PATs (90.6%) and 25-of-32 field goals (78.1%) with a long of 48. He set the NCAA DII single-season record with 25 field goals made (previous record was 20). Hendrix ended his college career completing 137-of-149 extra points and 36-of-46 field goals for 245 points. He earned all-state and all-area plaudits as a junior and senior at Stevensville Lakeshore High School, where he set the school record for points scored in a season and career. This past May, Hendrix received his collegiate degree in Education from GVSU.

Hendrix will compete with Peter Martinez for the kicking position for the Rampage. He will come to mini-camp that starts this Thursday and the team's training camp that opens on January 4, 2005.

Mini-Camp will be held at the Soccer Spot this Thursday (8am-12:30pm), Friday (8-11:30am) and Saturday (6-8am). All practices are open to the public and media. All players under contract for the Rampage will be in attendance.

The 2005 season kicks off on Friday, January 28, 2005 when the Arizona Rattlers take on your Rampage at Van Andel Arena at 7:30pm. Rampage season tickets are available now and can be purchased by calling 1.888.495.4878.
