
Ramirez and Ballon spoil Pioneers night

ELMIRA, N.Y. â Left fielder Carlos Ramirez hit a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth off of Scott Meyer to tie the score at four a piece. In the top of the seventh first baseman John Ballon hit the game winning home run with one man on off of Chris McGee.
Matt Vincent, the Pioneers starter, went five innings and gave up three hits while getting nine fly outs and five ground balls. Vincent also struck out seven Capitales throughout the night.
Quebec's pitcher Jeff Harris went eight innings and allowed nine hits and four earned runs while striking out nine batters on the night. This is Harris's first victory of the year.
Pioneers reliever Kenichiro Kawabata, a potential prospect from Japan, struck out two Capitales in one inning and was a pitch away from striking out the side.
The heart of Pioneers order went 5-7 throughout the night. Catcher Brian Jones went 2-3 with two doubles, while Ryan Lehr went 3-4 on the night.
The Pioneers fall to 1-2 on the year while the Capitales improve to 2-1.
The Pioneers wrap up their series with the Capitales tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m.
