
Rainville joins Miracle, Tyler placed on DL

FORT MYERS, FL (July 16, 2005) - The Minnesota Twins have always drafted good arms at the top of the draft and the Fort Myers Miracle are benefiting from that as the Twins 1st round (39th overall) pick from 2004, Jay Rainville will join the Miracle in Melbourne, FL on Saturday night. The Miracle will also place pitcher Scott Tyler on the disabled list.
The 19-year-old right-hander, Rainville, was 8-2, 3.77 ERA in 16 games, all starts, while with Single-A Beloit. In 88.1 innings pitched he walked 27 and struck out 77 while opponents hit .243 against him. In his first professional year in 2004, he was 3-2, 1.63 ERA with the GCL Twins. In 34.1 innings he walked just three and struck out 38 while opponents hit .278 against him. He is the second pitcher to join the Miracle from Beloit in the last week. Right-hander Anthony Swarzak joined the club on July 11 and makes his first start on Saturday night against the Brevard County Manatees.
The right-handed Tyler is placed on the disabled list with an injury to his knee. He is 5-6, 4.00 ERA in 17 games, all starts, in 2005. In 87.2 innings he has walked 35 and struck out a team high 85 while opponents are hitting .248 against him.
The Miracle roster now sits at 24 active players, out of a maximum 25, 12 pitchers and 12 position players.
