October 1, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Rainmen News Release
The Halifax Rainmen are proud to announce the signing of George Goode, pending FIBA clearance. Goode a 6'9, 24-year-old power forward, played professionally in Taiwan last season following a successful NCAA career which included three NCAA tournament appearances with Rick Pitino's Louisville Cardinals.
Last season, Goode played 7 games with Yulon Luxgen in Taiwan, averaging 14.1 points on 50% FG, along with 7.6 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.7 steals per game.
Over each of his three seasons playing for Rick Pitino at Louisville, Goode helped the Cardinals qualify for the NCAA Tournament and in 2009 reached the Elite Eight. Goode played in 59 games over 3 seasons (2008-11) at Louisville, averaging 2.1 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.5 blocks per game. He transferred to Farleigh Dickinson University for his Senior season, where he averaged 12.8 points on 50% FG, 7.4 rebounds (5th in the NEC), 1.6 assists and 1.4 blocks (3rd in NEC) over 29 games. Goode was highly recruited coming out of high school, as he was listed as a top 100 recruit (ranked 63rd by Sports Illustrated, 73rd by scout.com and 97th by rivals.com) in the 2007 class.
Coach Chris Terrell commented on Goode's signing:
"George has always been a big man with a unique skill set. He has the size, length, and athleticism to compete at a high level around the basket. But what has made him special at Louisville, Farleigh Dickinson, and in the pro league in Taiwan has been his ability to face the basket and consistently knock down the face up jump shot. That combination of skills allows him to play inside or outside, to pop or roll, and makes it very difficult for teams to defend him. If they want to switch screens, he's too powerful and can take a smaller defender down low and score quickly or force rotations which open up his teammates. If they try and hedge screens, George is very effective at popping free and hitting shots or slipping the screen and dunking on another defender. He's an effective rebounder and defender and has agile feet for his size. We're very fortunate to have him decide to sign with us in Halifax this season."
