Rainiers Edged By Aces In Extras, 3-2

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (61-65) dropped a close extra-innings contest to the Reno Aces (66-61) by a final score of 3-2 on Tuesday night at Cheney Stadium.

Left fielder Ian Miller (2x4, BB) and catcher David Freitas (2x5, RBI) paced the Rainiers offense with a pair of multi-hit performances. Shortstop Gordon Beckham (1x4, R, BB) and right fielder Andrew Aplin (0x3, R, 2 BB) both reached base multiple times.

Right-hander Mike Morin - making a spot start for Tacoma after scheduled starter Ross Detwiler was called up to Seattle - worked 2.2 innings for the Rainiers and allowed no runs on two hits. He issued one walk, struck out two, and threw 46 pitches.

The Rainiers bullpen limited the Aces to three runs (two earned) on eight hits over the remainder of the night. Marc Rzepczynski (0.2 IP) and Ryan Garton (1.2 IP) kept Reno off the scoreboard in relief of Morin while combining for four strikeouts. Tyler Higgins (3.0 IP) allowed one run on two hits over three innings of relief, and Ryan Cook (1.0 IP) allowed a run on one hit. Shawn Armstrong (2-5) pitched the top of the 10th and allowed the Aces automatic runner to score to take the loss.

Tacoma right-hander Christian Bergman (7-9, 5.44) and Reno righty Neftali Feliz (5-4, 4.85) will take the mound as the series continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. PT.
