Rain Wipes out Series Final in Jacksonville

Jackson Generals News Release
Jacksonville, Fla. - Jackson and Jacksonville were in the midst of yet another pitcher's duel when rain cancelled the final game of the season-opening series for both clubs. Though the game will not count in the standings, statistics from Monday's abbreviated contest will count.
After Tyler Smith grounded into an inning-ending fielder's choice in the top of the seventh, a hard rain in Jacksonville forced the game to stop. It was cancelled a half-hour later by crew chief J.J. January. Since this was the final scheduled meeting between the Suns and Generals in the First Half of 2015, it will not be made up.
Misael Siverio was impressive in his affiliated debut for Jackson (1-3). The Cuban lefty tossed five shutout innings, allowing just three hits while striking out five and not issuing a walk. It was Siverio's first professional start in the United States after being signed by the Mariners last November.
Siverio was able to work around a pair of base hits in the second inning, striking out Zach Cox to end the frame. The Suns were not able to get a runner past second base in six innings on Monday.
Jacksonville (3-1) got a fantastic start from Austin Brice. Julio Morban's leadoff single in the first inning was the only hit the Suns' righty allowed in five innings. He issued a pair of walks, but only one General was able to get into scoring position.
The Generals had an opportunity to score in what would be the game's final half-inning. Jordy Lara led off the seventh with a single. Two batters later, D.J. Peterson notched his first hit of 2015 with a sharp grounder into left field. That was as close as Jackson would get to scoring, as Matt Tomshaw retired Dan Paolini and Tyler Smith before the rain came.
The team returns to West Tennessee on Tuesday for a Meet the Players event at the Ballpark at Jackson. Gates open at 4:30 pm and admission is free for all. The team will be announced on the field at 5:00 pm, and fans will be able to get autographs afterwards. Season-ticket holders will be able to partake in a ticket with players starting at 6:00 pm.
On Wednesday, the Generals open at home versus the Mississippi Braves. That game kicks off a ten-game homestand for the Generals, which includes the team's first State Farm Agent Wes Harris Dollar Night on April 16 and Fireworks courtesy of the University of Memphis on April 18. Tickets are available by stopping by the park, calling (731) 988.5299 or going online to jacksongeneralsbaseball.com .
