
RailHawks U-23's Cap Friendlies with U.S. U-20 Men's National Team

CARY, NC (May 22, 2014) - The Carolina RailHawks and RailHawks U-23's played the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team this week in a series of friendly matches at WakeMed Soccer Park. The matches highlighted the RailHawks partnership with the Capital Area Soccer League on the Capital Area RailHawks Academy teams. A total of 11 C.A. RailHawks Academy players played in the matches for the Carolina RailHawks, RailHawks U-23's and U.S. U20 MNT.
On Thursday night, the RailHawks U-23's were defeated 1-0 on an 18th minute goal from Corey Baird of the red, white and blue. The first match of the week on Tuesday night between the RailHawks and the U-20 MNT ended in a 2-1 result in favor of the RailHawks. The RailHawks's Aaron King and Leo Osaki finished off a goal apiece in the victory before Ian Harkes pulled one back for the U-20's.
Of the 11 C.A. RailHawks Academy players that took the field at WakeMed Soccer Park, nine played for the RailHawks (defenders DJ Mason and Harry Morton, midfielders Cody Brinkman, Steve Megaloudis, Dominic Jensen and forwards Andre Fortune and William Ramirez) and two played for the U.S. U-20 Men's National Team (defenders Conor Donovan and Caleb Duvernay).
Prior to Tuesday's match, the Capital Area RailHawks hosted a packed house for an Academy Information Session that included a question and answer panel that included Brian Bliss (Technical Director of the Chicago Fire), Colin Clarke (Carolina RailHawks Head Coach), Kelly Findley (NC State Men's Soccer Head Coach), Carlos Somoano (UNC Men's Soccer Head Coach), John Bradford (Capital Area RailHawks Academy Director) and Curt Johnson (Carolina RailHawks President). The Carolina RailHawks will take to the road on Saturday, May 24th when they travel to Minnesota. The match will kickoff at 8:00pm ET and will be broadcast live on NASLlive.com. On Wednesday May 28th, the RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park to host the Charlotte Eagles in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
