June 24, 2009 - USL First Division (USL-1)
North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Wednesday, June 24, 2009) - The Carolina RailHawks will play a historic international friendly against the Panamanian National team on Tuesday, June 30 at 7 p.m. at WakeMed Soccer Park. Tickets ($10, $15 and $20) go on sale Thursday, June 25, at 10 a.m. and can be purchased at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-5425 or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com. In addition all draft beers will be only $1.
This marks the first time in franchise history that the RailHawks square off against full national team. After offering matches against Major League Soccer, Mexican and Honduran First Division teams, the RailHawks now bring one of the highest level teams in Central America to play at WakeMed Soccer Park.
"We are very excited to be playing against the Panama national team," said Carolina coach Martin Rennie. "It is truly an honor for us to be the final tune up match before they go to the CONCACAF Gold Cup and it will allow our players to measure up to a team at the highest level."
"This is a historical event for the RailHawks franchise," said RailHawks President Brian Wellman. "This will be the first time the RailHawks have ever played against a national team and it also continues our tradition of bringing high level international teams to WakeMed Soccer Park."
This match will be Panama's final tune up before the Gold Cup, which runs from July 3 to July 26. Panama features some great athletes who play all over the world including defender Felipe Baloy, who plays for Monterrey of Mexico and was at WakeMed Soccer Park in 2008 when the RailHawks hosted the Mexican First Division side.
