CARY, N.C. (Thursday, May 20 2010) - While the world of soccer is gearing up for the world cup, the RailHawks and the Independent Weekly, the Triangle's alternative weekly newspaper, have teamed up to screen new and classic soccer films around the Triangle. The festival will run from June 7th to the 18th and films will be shown at different locations in Raleigh, Durham, Cary and Chapel Hill.

"As soccer continues to gain popularity in the United States, people are looking for outlets to share in the passion and excitement of the world's biggest international sporting competition," said Independent weekly's culture editor David Fellerath. "Soccer is the world's game, and the Independent is proud to join with the Carolina RailHawks in providing opportunities for fans and newcomers alike to celebrate the occasion."

In addition, RailHawks coach Martin Rennie will participate in a Q & A session following a screening of "Looking for Eric", a new comedy about a troubled postal worker in Manchester, England who takes inspiration from Eric Cantona. The film opens June 11 at select theatres and date of the screening is to be determined.

"Eric Cantona is one of my all-time favorite players," said coach Rennie. "I look forward to discussing the movie and Cantona with like-minded soccer fans."
