
RailHawks Sign Midfielder Wes Knight

Cary, NC (March 20, 2015) - The Carolina RailHawks strengthened their roster on Friday with the signing of Midfielder Wes Knight ahead of the 2015 season.
"We are delighted to have Wes. He is an experienced player who feels comfortable with ball possession, which is one of the strengths we were looking for," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "Wes will help us add more depth and experience to our squad."
Knight attended Wren High School in Piedmont, South Carolina, and played club soccer for Greenville Futbol Club where he became the all-time leader in assists, two-time All-State selection, two- time All-Conference selection, 2004 Conference Player of the Year as well as 2004 Anderson Independent Male Soccer Player of the Year.
In 2004, Knight committed to play collegiate soccer at the College of Charleston. He was named to the Second Team All-Southern Conference & the NSCAA All-South Region second team in 2007. The following year, Knight was selected to the First Team All-Southern Conference and NSCAA All-South Region Second Team. Knight was invited to the MLS combine following the 2008 season.
Knight was signed by Vancouver Whitecaps FC ahead of the 2009 season. That same year, he was a finalist for Rookie of the Year award and ended the season as the league leader in assists with nine. He remained with Vancouver Whitecaps FC when the club joined Major League Soccer in 2011 and featured in 12 matches in the 2011 season.
In 2012, Knight signed with the NASL expansion side San Antonio Scorpions. Knight accumulated 2,492 minutes in 29 matches, helping the team win the 2012 Regular Season Championship. In January of 2013, Knight signed with FC Edmonton and registered 357 minutes and one goal in six matches.
"The RailHawks are an elite team with a style of play I enjoy. I feel honored to be part of this organization," said Knight. "I would love to be one of the players that brings a championship to the RailHawks."

The RailHawks roster is now comprised of 18 players: two goalkeepers (Hunter Gilstrap and Brian Sylvestre), five defenders (Connor Tobin, Daniel Scott, Austen King, Kupono Low and Mamadou Danso), nine midfielders (Nazmi Albadawi, Tiyi Shipalane, Leo Osaki, Neil Hlavaty, Mark Anderson, Wells Thompson, Austin Da Luz, Chris Nurse and Wes Knight) and two forwards (Nacho Novo and Simone Bracalello).
Knight and the Carolina RailHawks will open the 2015 Season at home against Ottawa Fury FC on Saturday, April 4th at 1:00pm.
