CARY, N.C. - The Carolina RailHawks set a club record on Saturday night, after topping the Atlanta Silverbacks 2-0. The victory was the fifth straight for the RailHawks, the most in franchise history. Pablo Campos and Allan Russell scored for the RailHawks, with both assists coming from Etienne Barbara.
By tallying his fourth and fith assist of the season, Barbara became the league leader in assists, as well as goals.
RailHawks goalkeeper Brad Knighton came up with a few diving saves early to keep the Silverbacks off the board in the first half. After finding the going tough early, the RailHawks attack started to gain momentum late in the first half.
Pablo Campos seemed to put the RailHawks on top in the 44th minute, only to have the goal called back due to a handball. Barbara, who played the ball in to Campos, didn't find much space in the first half as the Silverbacks made an obvious effort to cover the league's leading scorer.
Jonny Steele nearly scored early in the second half, with a long range, bending volley off top of the crossbar.
After making a couple substitutions, the RailHawks finally broke through the Silverbacks defense. In the 81st minute, Cory Elenio gained control of the ball and played on to Barbara in the box. Barbara sped past his defender and popped the ball over the goalkeeper, and Campos completed the diving header, burying the ball in the back of the net.
The RailHawks put the final nail in the coffin in stoppage time, with a goal from Allan Russell. Barbara played the ball on the ground, through the box, to Russell who easily slammed it home to finish the game at 2-0.
The RailHawks return to action next Saturday, when they travel to Florida to take on FC Tampa Bay.
