CARY, N.C. -- The Carolina RailHawks (12-1-1) picked up their 10th straight victory on Sunday night, lighting up Montreal 2-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park. Pablo Campos and Nick Zimmerman scored in the RailHawks' victory.
In addition to 10 straight wins, the league-leading RailHawks are unbeaten in their last 13 (12-1-0).
Campos kicked off the scoring in the 30th minute, tallying his sixth goal of the season. Chris Nurse popped the ball over the Impact defense to Campos, who one-timed it calmly past Montreal goalkeeper Evan Bush to make it 1-0.
Jonny Steele, who picked up his fifth assist of the season, spent much of the first half terrorizing the Montreal defense with pinpoint passes.
In the 34th minute, Steele picked his head up near midfield and played a long ball to Zimmerman, who headed the ball over Bush and easily put the RailHawks on top 2-0.
The RailHawks controlled much of the play in the second half, preserving Carolina's fourth shutout in their last eight games and fifth of the season.
After hitting the road to take on NSC Minnesota on July 9th, the RailHawks begin a home-and-home series with FC Edmonton. Following a match at Foote Field in Edmonton on July 13th, the RailHawks and FC Edmonton square off at WakeMed Soccer Park on July 23th, at 7:00 p.m.
