North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (Friday, August 29, 2008) - The Carolina RailHawks (6-10-9) are all set to host their Canadian rival Montreal Impact (9-10-4) in a match that is sure to electrify WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, August 30, at 7:30 p.m. The match is presented by Lifetime Fitness and Marriott and the first 2,000 fans will receive a limited edition Dan Antoniuk player card courtesy of North Carolina Railroad Company. Tickets for this match are available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
"We have to approach the game with the mindset that we can't lose," said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. "The importance of this match is increased by the fact that we're fighting for the final playoff spot."
The RailHawks are indeed fighting for the seventh and final playoff spot and a win on Saturday will put them right back into the playoff race. They are coming off a road trip to Minnesota, where they won 2-1 and Seattle where they lost 3-4 after RailHawks forward Hamed Diallo scored his first hat-trick as a RailHawk. This will be the third time Montreal and the RailHawks meet this season and the RailHawks will look to overturn the results from the previous two matches and post a very important win.
Carolina RailHawks newest signing, midfielder/forward Rey Martinez is expected to make his WakeMed Soccer Park debut alongside Martin Nuñez, Santiago Fusilier and Matthew Watson and help the team earn the coveted three points.
"At this stage in the season, you need all the points you can get," said Impact defender Simon Gatti. "We know the RailHawks are behind us in the standings, so we can't let them catch up on us. We have to come up with more intensity than we did in the CONCACAF game. Yes, we are a little bit tired, after playing so many games in such a short period of time, but we have depth on this team with 26 players that can help the club."
The Montreal Impact are coming off a 1-0 win over Nicaraguan champion Real Esteli in the CONCACAF Champions League last Wednesday and this will be their third match in seven days after having defeated the Atlanta Silverbacks 3-1 on Sunday, August 24.
The match will be preceded by the final of the Copa Mexico Sub-20, a tournament co-sponsored with the Consulate General of Mexico. The match will be played on Field Two at WakeMed Soccer Park at 5:30 p.m. and the tournament finalists will be recognized at halftime during the Impact match.
The RailHawks will continue their hunt for the seventh and final playoff spot on Saturday, September 6, as they host the Charleston Battery in a match that is also valid for the Southern Derby Cup. Tickets for this and all RailHawks events are available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-KICK (5425), at all Ticketmaster outlets or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
