North Carolina FC News Release
CARY, N.C. (Friday, July 30, 2010) - The Carolina RailHawks are all set to host the Vancouver Whitecaps for one last time this Saturday, July 31 at 7 p.m. The match is presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina and the first 1,500 people through the gates will receive a RailHawks/BCBS Koozie. Tickets ($10, $15 and $20, +$2 on day of game) are still available at the LGFCU Box Office, by calling 919-859-5425 or by visiting www.carolinarailhawks.com.
"It's an important game for us," said RailHawks coach Martin Rennie. "We played well against them in Vancouver and it was a 1-1 tie. We're the top two teams in the NASL conference and we are both vying for that top spot so it will be like a championship game for us tomorrow. They are one of the best defensive teams in the league so we are going to have to find a way to break them down and move them around while making sure we defend well against them."
This will be the final regular season meeting between these two teams who have met a total of nine times in the past four years (2-5-2), as the Whitecaps are moving to Major League Soccer next season. They have a very strong defense that has only allowed 13 goals in 20 games this season, tied with the RailHawks for first place. The Whitecaps have a true leader in their captain, midfielder Martin Nash, who leads the league in assists with six and is a proven goal scorer especially on set pieces.
The RailHawks will look to bounce back from their loss against Rochester last Tuesday in front of their home crowd. Josh Gardner will most likely return to the lineup after sitting out the last match due to card accumulation and fans will also have a chance to see more of Carolina's newest acquisition, Allan Russell, who already played a full 90 minutes in his RailHawks debut and is settling in well up top.
Next the RailHawks host the Montreal Impact on August 7 at 7 p.m. it will be Military Appreciation night and all active, reserve and retired members of the military will get in free by showing their military i.d. Discounts will also be available for their families. For more information on everything RailHawks visit www.carolinarailhawks.com or call the LGFCU Box Office at 919-859-5425.
