North Carolina FC News Release
The Carolina RailHawks are set to play the Charleston Battery on Saturday May 19th at 7:30 PM at SAS Soccer Park in Cary. The RailHawks (1-1-3) are coming off two well earned victories, 2-0 against Chivas USA of Major League Soccer in an exhibition, and 2-1 against the Atlanta Silverbacks in a fixture also valid for the Southern Derby Cup.
The Charleston Battery (1-1-2), who are also a Southern Derby rival, will travel to Cary after a 2-0 victory over Miami FC last Saturday night. The RailHawks will have to watch out for former Portland Timbers star forward Byron Alvarez and midfielder Gordon Chin, who earned Team of the Week honors for two straight weeks.
"I expect a fantastic game as both teams are coming off quality wins and will want to keep the momentum going." said Charleston Battery head coach Mike Anhaeuser, "It is great to have a team in the Raleigh area as it brings back a rivalry, and adds a close geographic partner."
The Carolina RailHawks defense, with Team of the Week honorees David Stokes, Chris McClellan and Chad Dombrowski will look to shut down the Charleston Battery offense as they size up another Southern Derby Cup opponent.
"Charleston is a real good team," said RailHawks head coach Scott Schweitzer, "they have great forwards and are good on the flanks. We are going to have to be very disciplined and play well to break their defense down."
The theme of the evening is Hawaiian Night, fans are encouraged to wear their favorite Hawaiian shirt or outfit as they cheer their RailHawks on to victory over the Charleston Battery. Fans will be able to get autographs after the game at Autograph Alley on the North side of the field.
The Carolina RailHawks have partnered with the Food Bank of NC to do a food drive. Fans are encouraged to bring two cans of food and receive a free game day program. They can drop their non-perishable cans/boxes of food off at the box office.
Children are invited to be part of the human tunnel that greets the players during pre-game festivities. They should meet at the Northwest Corner of the stadium (Beside Building D) at 7:00pm on all game nights to take part in this exciting event.
The Carolina RailHawks will travel to the west coast next week where they will face three playoff contenders in Seattle, Vancouver and Portland. They will return home to face the Rochester Raging Rhinos on Friday June 8th at 7:30 PM at SAS Soccer Park in Cary.
The Carolina RailHawks are a United Soccer Leagues expansion team that entered the USL First Division in April 2007. The squad will play 14 regular season home games and four additional home playoff and exhibition games each year, with all home games played at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Under Rochester Rhinos co-owner and USL Hall of Fame inductee Chris Economides, the RailHawks organization was formed in October 2005 and awarded the USL franchise in January 2006.
