North Carolina FC News Release
Cary, NC (July 11, 2015) - The Carolina RailHawks (1W-1D-1L, 4pts.) traveled to Indianapolis and lost by a score of 2-1 against Indy Eleven (1W-1D-0L, 4pts.) on Saturday night in a hard-fought competitive match at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
Indy came out at home attacking relentlessly and had several chances early on. However, the RailHawks refused to concede as defender Daniel Scott and goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald both made great defensive plays.
As the first half wore on, the RailHawks became more comfortable and started to pour on their own attack, but could not convert on their early opportunities. The RailHawks upheld their dominance throughout the remainder of the first half and their hard work paid off in the 42nd minute with a goal generated from a free kick.
Nazmi Albadawi tapped the ball to start and after receiving the ball back on a touch, he sent a cross to midfielder Austin da Luz. The Wake Forest product met the cross with his head and sent the ball to the back of the net for an absolutely beautiful goal.
Indy capitalized quickly in the second half with a header in the 54th minute from striker Wojciech Wojick and Erick Norales added a goal as well. Yet the RailHawks worked tirelessly to try and tie the score. Forward Bradlee Baladez looked dangerous and created chances for the away side.
Indy responded to Baladez's pressure and produced opportunities themselves but the RailHawks defense stepped up and didn't allow any threatening balls to get past them. After several defensive stops, the RailHawks went on the attack and da Luz nearly scored his second goal of the match in the 80th minute. He blasted a shot from just outside the box but the ball was a little too high and ricocheted off the crossbar. The RailHawks kept pressing but were unable to pick up a point in a tough match on the road.
The RailHawks will return to WakeMed Soccer Park on Saturday, July 18th at 7:30 PM to take on the San Antonio Scorpions.
RailHawks partial season plans for the second half of the 2015 season are on-sale now. Packages start as low as $99. The full RailHawks home schedule can be viewed here.
