North Carolina FC News Release
Hempstead, NY - The Carolina RailHawks (2W-0T-3L, 6pts) captured a 1-0 road victory over the New York Cosmos (1W-1T-2L, 4pts) on Saturday night at the James M. Shuart Stadium in New York. The win was the RailHawks first road victory in 2014 and first-ever victory in New York, against the Cosmos.
"Tonight, I can't be more proud of my boys and the effort they put in," said RailHawks Head Coach Colin Clarke. "We've been good on the road, but just couldn't get the first goal. We got an exceptional goal from Shipalane, and we had the better chances in the first half and second half."
In the 38th minute, RailHawks midfielder Tiyi Shipalane scored his third goal of the season after dribbling his way through four Cosmos defenders before beating goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer with a low shot from 12 yards out.
Scott Goodwin and the RailHawks defense had another big night and earned their second straight shutout of the NASL Fall Season.
The RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park this coming Saturday, august 9 to take on the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Kick-off is schedule for 7:30pm and tickets are on-sale now. For more information about the game, visit www.CarolinaRailHawks.com or call the Johnson Maserati Box Office at 919-459-8144.
