RailHawks Draw on the Road with FC Edmonton

EDMONTON, CANADA (June 16, 2013) - The RailHawks (4-4-1, 16pts) traveled to Canada this week to earn a 1-1 road draw against FC Edmonton (2-5-3, 11pts). RailHawks forward, Cesar Elizondo, once again rose to the occasion and scored the game tying goal in the 88th minute. FC Edmonton jumped on the board in the 73rd minute on a goal from Michael Cox.

The match saw a largely uneventful first half, as both clubs had little problem settling down in the early minutes. Deep-lying midfielders and back lines stymied nearly all of the first half's attacks, with FC Edmonton racking up 3 shots and the RailHawks taking 1 shot from distance. It wasn't until FC Edmonton defender Lance Laing's free kick that either club was close to scoring, but his shot sailed over the crossbar.

In the second half it was the Eddies who struck first when Michael Cox placed an arcing shot over Akira Fitzgerald's head to take the 1-0 lead.

Yet as FC Edmonton defended for the remaining minutes, the RailHawks probed around the goal until Tiyi Shipalane continued his run of good form by drawing in defenders in the box before passing off to Cesar Elizondo, who netted his second goal of the season to draw the RailHawks level, where the game ended shortly thereafter.

The RailHawks return to NASL action next Saturday on June 22nd at WakeMed Soccer Park against Minnesota United FC. The match will be broadcast live on http://www.CarolinaRailHawks.com/LIVE. A week later on June 29th, the RailHawks return to WakeMed Soccer Park to take on NASL rivals the Atlanta Silverbacks.
