GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats finalized their official roster after the completion of spring training. The roster is completed in preparation for the start of the American Association season, which begins Thursday, May 19th. The RailCats open the season with an eight-game road trip beginning in St. Paul on Thursday.
The 2016 roster features a mix of returning players and new faces. 14 RailCats played with club last season while nine are new to the South Shore. Some of the prominent faces on the 2016 roster include Charle Rosario, Jose Sermo, and Eric Eadington.
The RailCats bring back their 2015 ace in Rosario, who compiled a 12-8 record with a 3.81 ERA last season. Rosario was among the league leaders in 2015 in several pitching categories. He tied for 4th in the American Association in both wins (12) and innings pitched (137.0). Rosario was one of the leagues "iron horses" taking the mound for 22 starting nods good for second overall in the American Association.
Jose Sermo returns to anchor the infield with his versatility. In addition to being a switch hitter, Sermo manned all four infield spots for the RailCats last season. He was a consistent producer at the plate as well, batting .290 with 26 RBIs. Sermo finished the season third in batting average for the RailCats and his 13 doubles were good for third on the club.
One of the players new to the American Association is Eric Eadington. He was a rising prospect with the Dodgers organization before Tommy John surgery took him out of the game for a season. Eadington starred at Harvard in college and brings a strong left-handed arm to Greg Tagert's starting rotation.
2016 will mark the 15th season of RailCats Baseball in Northwest Indiana. Opening Day for the RailCats' on the South Shore is Friday, May 27th against the Joplin Blasters.
