RailCats Reach Deal with Lefty Ludwig

GARY, IN - The Gary South Shore RailCats announced the club has agreed to a contract with LHP Dan Ludwig for the 2016 season. Ludwig a native of Naperville, Illinois, returns to the RailCats after a short stay on the south shore with the RailCats in 2015.

Dan Ludwig was originally signed by the "Cats on 7/8/15 last season and made his professional debut that night starting for the RailCats against Sioux City at US Steel Yard. The lefty worked three innings in his first outing holding the X's in check over three innings and posting a no decision. He faced 12 batters giving up one hit and striking out four with a walk and no runs in a 6-0 RailCats loss. 

Ludwig went on to appear in three more games working 10.1 innings with nine strike outs and a 4.35 ERA before being released 7/21/15. He went 1-0 on the season picking up his first pro win on 7/16 tossing 2.1 relief innings in a 14-7 win at Winnipeg. 

Ludwig played four seasons at Belmont University the same school former RailCats infielder Zac Mitchell played for during his college years. At Belmont Ludwig posted a 20-18 record and 4.27 ERA through his collegiate career. He made 47 starts through his four years, including a career-high 15 games started and 95.1 innings pitched in 2015.

2016 will mark the 15th season of RailCats Baseball in Northwest Indiana. Opening Day for the RailCats' on the South Shore is Friday, May 27th against the Joplin Blasters.
