Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - Down 4-0 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, the Gary SouthShore RailCats rallied for five runs on a triple and home run, but the Lincoln Saltdogs answered with three of their own in the top of the sixth, as the 'Cats drop another one at home and fall seven games below .500.

Lincoln (27-44) stormed out for two runs in the first and another in the second and third before the RailCats' fifth inning rally.

The 'Cats (32-29) loaded the bases with one out in that fifth inning when Jaime Del Valle drove a triple into the right field corner to make it a one-run game, then came in to tie it on a wild pitch. Two batters later, Alex Hernandez wrapped a long ball around the left field foul pole to make it a 5-4 game.

The 'Dogs immediately came out and put three runs across in the top of the sixth to go on top 7-5.

Hernandez drove in another run with an infield single in the seventh to make it a one-run game, but the team stranded a leadoff double in the top of the ninth as Marshall Schuler sealed the Saltdogs victory.

The RailCats are seven games under .500 for the first time after Saturday's loss, which brought in 6,077 fans - the highest attendance of the season.

The 'Cats and 'Dogs play game two of the three-game set on a Sunday Fun-day at the U.S. Steel Yard, as lefty Travis McGee (1-0) gets the nod for the SouthShore and righty Chase Cunningham makes his first start for the Saltdogs.
