Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

GARY, IN- The Gary SouthShore RailCats announced today that right-handed pitcher Taylor Black was placed on the Disabled List. The RailCats re-signed RHP Carlos Pinales to fill Black's spot.

Pinales pitched in two games for Gary SouthShore before being released on August 5th. He made two starts on the club's road trip in late July. In Kansas City, Pinales went five innings and gave up two runs on five hits in a 5-4 loss to the T-Bones. In Texas, he was charged with the loss after tossing five innings and surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits. He struck out seven batters and did not issue a walk in the two games.

Pinales initially joined the RailCats on July 25, 2016 after pitching briefly in the Empire League. The Dominican Republic-native started three games for the Old Orchard Beach Surge and was 3-0 with a 0.75 ERA. The RailCats signed RHP Jorge de Leon from the same league earlier in the season.

Pinales, 24, was a prospect for six years in the Boston Red Sox organization. He worked mostly as a reliever and reached as high as the Class A South Atlantic League. He pitched in 30 games last season for the Greenville Drive and posted a 5-4 record with a 4.14 ERA. His career record is 20-15 with a 2.88 ERA. The righty boasts 207 strike outs compared to 41 walks over his six seasons.

Black started the season as the RailCats' closer but transitioned into a starting role recently. He has a 6-6 record with a 5.37 ERA in 32 games. He started six games and recorded seven saves. In his last five starts, Black was 2-2 with a 4.91 ERA.

The Disabled List spot was available because RHP Karl Triana was recently moved to the Inactive List. INF Jeremy Hamilton was released to make space for Triana to go inactive.

The RailCats are 48-43 on the season and are in first place in the American Association's Central Division. For more information on Gary SouthShore RailCats tickets and Group Outing information call 219-882-2255 or visit www.railcatsbaseball.com .
