Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Gary, Ind.- Gary SouthShore RailCats' Koichi Misawa surrendered no runs in July and was awarded the Rawlings' Northern League Pitcher of the Month, while Fargo-Moorhead's Ruben Salazar was named NoL Player of the Month.
During the month of July, Misawa sported a 0.00 earned run average with three saves in 19.1 innings of work. The former Japanese Olympian has yielded just one run on the season, which came June 22.
Opponents hit just .106 against Misawa in his 13 July appearances. Misawa is 5-1, 5 saves with a 0.30 ERA and has struck out 38 hitters in 30 innings of work. The veteran right-hander played 10 years in Japan and was even a silver medallist for the 1996 Japanese Olympic team.
While Misawa has made it hard on pitchers, Salazar has caused problems from NoL pitchers as the RedHawks first baseman has hit .380 on the season, but an even more robust .468 during the month of July.
Salazar has hammered RailCats pitching this year, going 19-41 (.463) against the RailCats. The RedHawks won the season series against the RailCats 15-5, but have no more games scheduled against one another the rest of the year.
Great tickets are still available for exciting RailCats' games, to purchase tickets call (219) 882-2255 or visit www.railcatsbaseball.com.
