Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
Gary, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats Professional Baseball Club announced its 2007 Northern League schedule today. The 2007 season will begin on May 17th and conclude on September 2nd. The RailCats will play 96 games including 47 games at U. S. Steel Yard.
For the first time in franchise history, the RailCats will open the Northern League season at home when they host the Winnipeg Goldeyes on May 17th. The RailCats opened on the road in each season from 2002-'06.
"We are looking forward to opening a season at home," said Roger Wexelberg, RailCats Vice President & General Manager. "It should be an exciting first weekend for our always enthusiastic fans and we always seem to play exciting games against Winnipeg."
Standard game times for 2007 will be the same as in past years. Monday-Friday home games will start at 7:00 p.m. Saturday games will start at 6:00 p.m. Sunday games will start at 2:00 p.m. The RailCats will play 26 of their 47 home games on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. They will have nine Friday-Saturday night combinations at home compared to seven on the road.
"From a fan's perspective, this has to be the best schedule we have ever had," said Mike Tatoian, Chief Executive Officer of Victory Sports Group, the RailCats ownership group.
The RailCats will play three weekday day games in 2007, each starting at 11:00 a.m. They are May 21st, May 23rd, and July 18th.
The season will again be split into two separate 48-game halves with distinct divisional races in each half. The first half will run from May 17-July 8 while the second half will run from July 12-September 2.
The Northern League features an unbalanced schedule again in 2007 with more games against divisional opponents (60 for the RailCats) than teams outside the division (36).
Within the Eastern Division, the RailCats will play Joliet 24 times (10 at home), Schaumburg 19 times (10 at home) and Kansas City 17 times (six at home). Outside the division, the RailCats will play Winnipeg 12 times (seven at home), Fargo-Moorhead 11 times (eight at home), Edmonton seven times (three at home), and Calgary six times (three at home).
The RailCats will visit all three Canadian cities (Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg) and Fargo-Moorhead in the first half, but will not travel outside the Eastern Division in the second half.
A complete 2007 schedule with home game times follows.
