LAST TIME OUT: Riley Spraggs scored twice and Evan Schultz tallied two assists but the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs fell to the Fayetteville Marksmen, 4-3, Friday night at the Berglund Center. Spraggs' second goal put the Dawgs on top, 3-1, nearly halfway through the second period but the Marksmen scored the game's final three goals to eventually take the lead and win the game.

MESSING WITH THE CHAMPS: The Dawgs now turn their attention to the defending President's Cup champion Macon Mayhem. Over six meetings last season, Roanoke went 2-3-1 against Macon, including a 0-2-1 mark at the Macon Coliseum.

STUMBLED OUT OF THE GATE: The Mayhem enter Friday's game 0-2-0 after being outscored a combined 9-1 during losses to the Pensacola Ice Flyers and Huntsville Havoc. Macon has been without its number one goaltender as Troy Passingham was loaned to the Atlanta Gladiators (BOS: ECHL) on 10/19, the eve of SPHL Opening Night. Macon's two current goalies, Charlie Finn and Tomas Sholl combined to allow 9 goals on 50 shots during the opening weekend.

AB MOVIN' ON UP AB : Dmytro Babenko was called up to the Norfolk Admirals (NSH: ECHL) on Tuesday for what will be his first stint at the Double-A level of professional hockey in his second professional season. Babenko spent training camp with the Admirals who are coached by Robbie Ftorek, father of Rail Yard Dawgs coach Sam Ftorek . Babenko will not be the only Rail Yard Dawg in Hampton Roads, defenseman Joe Sova was also called up to the Admirals on Thursday. Sova has appeared in 242 career games in the ECHL over parts of five seasons.

WEARING THE C: Roanoke coach Sam Ftorek named his captains in advance of Friday's season-opener against the Fayetteville Marksmen. Veteran defenseman Nick Schneider will wear the C as the Rail Yard Dawgs captain for the second consecutive season. Forward Steve Mele wore an A as an alternate captain, a role that he held in the 2016-17 season as well. Defenseman Travis Armstrong opens the season as the other alternate captain.

TWO AT A TIME: Riley Spraggs netted two goals on Friday, the 12 th time in his SPHL career he has had a multi-point game and the 7 th time he had scored two goals in a game. During his eight games with Roanoke in 2016-17 he had one goal and three assists

FRESH BLOOD: The Rail Yard Dawgs waived backup goaltender Brendan Leahy on Tuesday and signed Brad Barone in his place. Barone went 19-14-2 with a 2.73 GAA and .913 SV% in 37 games for Mississippi in 2016-17.

UP NEXT: For the second straight weekend Roanoke will play only one Friday night game and take Saturday off. The Rail Yard Dawgs will then head back to the Roanoke Valley and prepare to host the Evansville Thunderbolts on Friday at 7:05 PM. Each of Roanoke's next seven games will take place at home.
