Raiders Unveil "Bring Back the Magic" Campaign

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan â The Prince Albert Raider Hockey Club is pleased to announce the start of their major fundraising event called "Bring Back the Magic". Membership of the Hockey Club authorized the proposed plan at a special meeting held October 7th; and last night Prince Albert City Council gave their unanimous support and approval to the committee from the club that would see the Raiders spearhead a plan to raise three million dollars to facilitate improvements to the Comuniplex and to create an operating trust fund for the team.
The Raiders have been a key part of hockey entertainment and the social fabric of the city for the past 32 years. The Raiders, as a business, generate approximately 3 million dollars in goods and services for the City of Prince Albert each season. The Comuniplex, constructed in 1971, has been the home to the Raiders and many other events in the city over that time. This upgrading of the Comuniplex will not only enhance Raider Hockey, but also make the venue and City more attractive to larger shows, events, and conventions.
Proposed upgrades to the facility would involve new seating including handrails with wheel chair accessibility, and an elevator to allow access to the second level of the building. The operating trust fund would ensure that the Raiders will continue to be financially viable for years to come.
A group of businessmen and the Raider Board of Directors have been spearheading this plan since April and with last night's council approval, will now approach the corporate sector, season ticket holders, alumni and service clubs to garner their financial support. The campaign also will seek the support of other user groups of the Comuniplex who will benefit from the upgrades to the facility.
The committee is optimistic that the people of Prince Albert will support, as they have in the past, the upgrading of one of the City's premier entertainment facilities.
The "Bring Back the Magic" fund raising office will open Monday, October 27th in the Ches Leach Lounge in the Comuniplex. The phone number in the office will be 765-2832. The public can call this number starting Monday for more information and pledge forms.
