Prince Albert Raiders News Release

Prince Albert, Saskatchewan - When the Prince Albert Raiders host the Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League action Saturday, January 9th at 7:00 PM they will be wearing red jerseys, for the first time in franchise history. To mark the conclusion of the World Junior Hockey Championships and to lead into the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Prince Albert on January 11th, the Raiders will be wearing commemorative jerseys.

Following the game the jerseys will be auctioned off in the Ches Leach Lounge with all proceeds going to the Raiders Education Fund. Pre bidding for the jerseys, starting at $250 is now available at www.raiderhockey.com.

The jerseys, replicas of the 1961 Trail Smoke Eaters, the last amateur team to win the World Championship, are red with blue and silver trim and have a Maple Leaf and the word Canada on the front. The Prince Albert Raiders logo is the shoulder patch on both sides and the neck features a white string.

"The Western Hockey League allows each team to have 2 special jersey nights a season", said Bruce Vance, Raiders Director of Marketing and Media Relations. "Our first for Breast Cancer was a huge success back in October and we think our fans will really like the Canada jerseys as well with our Education Fund the benefactor."

The jerseys are part of a major weekend for the Raiders as they are part of the Olympic Torch Relay Celebrations in Prince Albert leading up to the Olympic Flame's arrival on January 11th at 6:11 PM.

At the Raiders Friday home game against the Lethbridge Hurricanes at 7:00 PM Canadian Olympian Kelsie Hendry will be on hand signing autographs, as well all fans will receive their own mini Canada flag from Prince Albert Olympic Torch Relay Committee Members.

Besides wearing the special jerseys during the Saturday game, a pre-game puck drop ceremony will occur featuring local Torch Relay Chair Lisa Davis, Mayor Jim Scarrow, Saskatchewan VANOC Volunteer representatives Allan and Cindy Chizek and others. Saskatchewan Roughrider mascot Gainer the Gopher also will be a special guest at the game.

Tickets for both games are available at www.raiderhockey.com or by calling 764-GAME.
