Rochester Raiders News Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (December 19, 2008)- The Rochester Raiders and the rest of the Indoor Football League are poised to take over the reigns as the top indoor football league in the country. With the recent announcement the AFL will suspend 2009 operations, it leaves the IFL atop the indoor football world. Rochester joins established teams like the Sioux Falls Storm, Billings Outlaws, and Omaha Beef in the 19-team league.
The Raiders have already been contacted by numerous AFL players interested in playing in the IFL for the 2009 season which kicks off in March.
"The IFL has the right business model and the right rules to give our players the best chance at moving up the next level. It is NFL rules but indoors," stated Raiders Co-Owner Dave McCarthy. "I am extremely excited that we have been given this opportunity to show that we are the number one league in the country. You wont see balls bouncing off of nets, linebackers not being able to blitz, and four guys going in motion, this is real outdoor football but inside. On a 50 yard field scoring is bound to happen so why would you not allow blitzing. We are doing it the right way, that is why we will be successful, we will make it a very inexpensive fan friendly product with the best talent in the country. It is going to be a great thing."
The Raiders will be entering their fourth season overall and their first in the IFL. The season is set to get underway in March of 2009 in which the Raiders will be playing seven regular season home games at the Blue Cross Arena.
