Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Knoxville, TN. The SPHL League Meetings Radio Show has been changed to ESPN 1180 in Knoxville tonight from 7-9pm. The show will also be broadcast on the internet via the Columbus Cottonmouths web site.

Ice Bear players offering private instruction

For many, the hockey season has come to an end, but there is an answer for the local avid player. Just because the NHL is in a "holding pattern" doesn't mean that hockey-time in Tennessee is. Knoxville is still home to many of your favorite Ice Bear players, and they have been spending their Sundays down at the ICEARIUM working with local youth and adult skaters. Participants have been learning to perfect the drills that our ice hero's have been using over the years as professional hockey players. Just think, our Ice Bears have been sharing their secrets-to-success. Could their skills help improve your game? Here's your chance to get one step ahead of the game.

KJ Voorhees (#24), Liam McCarthy (#27), Kevin Swider (#7), Doug Searle (#2), Curtis Menzul (#4) and Jamie Ronayne (#30) are offering education about the smaller details of hockey. "It's a good chance for local hockey players (youth & adults) to receive quality instruction from knowledgeable teachers", says Ronayne with a smile. "We all pick up something new every time we play. Now we can pass on to others, the tricks we've learned." Players involved in the Ice Bear class are executing drills on shooting, passing, footwork and stick handling. $60 per player buys 20 minutes of 1-on-1 time and 30 minutes of group drills. So far, this special summer class has helped about a dozen players. Voorhees admits, "my son Felix has thoroughly enjoyed working with these guys. We all know what it's like to learn the sport; we just hope other hockey players can walk away with at least one new thing to help improve their game."

If you think your Ice Bear players are great during the games, you should see them in person. Remember, classes take place on Sundays at the ICEARIUM from 3-4pm. Players must wear full equipment. Don't let this experience pass you by. Go join the guys and have fun....and be prepared to learn from the experts. For directions to the ICEARIUM, call (865) 218-4500.
