Racing's Challenge Cup Match at KC Moved Back a Day
July 14, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Racing Louisville FC News Release
Racing Louisville's upcoming UKG NWSL Challenge Cup match against the Kansas City Current will now be played on Saturday, August 5, the clubs and NWSL announced Friday. The match was originally slated for April 4.
Kickoff is set for the same time - 8 p.m. ET - in the same location, Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City.
The game will be broadcast locally on WAVE network Circle - over the air on WAVE 3.3, Spectrum cable channel 193 and Dish Network's 370 - and streamed on Paramount+.
Racing (3-0-0, 9 points) is the only team with a perfect record in the NWSL Challenge Cup, having beaten each club in its four-team Central Division once so far. The Louisvillians are in first place in the group, three points clear of second-place Kansas City.
Louisville topped Kansas City, 3-2, in its home Challenge Cup meeting with the Current on May 17. The match now on August 5 is the return game of that home-and-home Cup series.
The Challenge Cup, a league-wide tournament that runs concurrently with the regular season, includes three groups of four teams, with each team playing six group matches. The three group winners and the top second-place finisher advance to the Challenge Cup semifinals on Sept. 6. The final is set for Sept. 9.
The NWSL announced earlier this year a $1 million pot to be distributed among players for participating in the Cup.
