March 31, 2023 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Racing Louisville FC News Release
Racing Louisville FC on Friday announced a pair of roster moves ahead of its home opener at 3 p.m. Saturday against the Washington Spirit.
Racing signed goalkeeper Olivia Sekany to a one-year contract, adding the former University of Washington standout to Louisville's talented goalkeeping corps. Sekany - pronounced "Suh-CAW-knee" - has been with Racing since the start of preseason, participating with the team as a non-roster invitee and trialist.
Goalkeeper Kelsey Daugherty was waived by Racing as she neared a new deal with a European club. The Georgia native had signed with Louisville last summer.
"I am so honored and excited to be officially joining Racing Louisville," Sekany said. "This team is truly something special, and I cannot thank the coaching staff and entire organization enough for this opportunity. Go Big Purp!"
"I'm excited that we have this opportunity to sign Olivia," said Racing goalkeepers coach Sergio Gonzalez. "Since the day she stepped onto the training pitch here, she has worked extremely hard and has made everyone around her better. Olivia has a bright future, and I'm looking forward to continuing to work with her.
"I'm thankful we had Kelsey as part of our goalkeeping corps here. Her professionalism and hard work helped create a dynamic between our goalkeepers that allowed us to get better every day. I wish her all the best in this next step in her career and look forward to seeing her future success."
Sekany, who helped guide Washington to the Sweet 16 in the rescheduled 2020 NCAA Tournament, holds the Huskies' record for the lowest goals-against average (0.62) in program history, topping Hope Solo.
The Livermore, California, native will be available for selection for Saturday's match against Washington.
