TODAY'S GAME: The second of a four game series and the second of 12 meetings, six at The Diamond. It is the sixth of an eight game homestand for Richmond. The Braves are 2-3 at home. Richmond was 7-5 vs. Indianapolis last season, 4-2 at The Diamond. The Braves are 47-59 vs. Indianapolis all-time. Richmond is in third place in the South, two games back of Durham and Norfolk. The Indians are tied for third in the West with Louisville, two games behind first place Columbus.
YESTERDAY'S GAME: The Indians edged the Braves 4-3. Jose Leon whacked a two-run pinch hit home run in the eighth inning to put Indianapolis ahead to stay after the Braves twice rallied to tie the game. Graham Koonce crushed a lead-off home run in the second, the first run allowed by Seth Greisinger this season. John Barnes home run in the bottom of the second tied the game. The Indians went back in front in the fourth. Cesar Crespo doubled and scored on a double play ball. The Braves tied it at two in the sixth. Kelly Johnson knocked in a run with a ground ball. The Braves had the tying run on with no outs in the ninth but Mark Corey retired three straight to earn the save. Indianapolis starter Ian Snell picked up the win. Barnes and the Indians Ryan Doumit had two hits each.
OF STREAKS AND MEN: Kelly Johnson's seven game hitting streak and five game multiple hit streak ended last night. The seven game hitting streak was the Braves second longest of the season. Seth Greisinger's consecutive scoreless innings streak ended at 13.2. Scott Pratt and John Barnes have four game hitting streaks. Carlos Mendez and Jason Bourgeois three game hitting streaks ended last night. The Braves streak of 10-plus hits in a game ended last night at three. The Braves have homered in four straight games.
LEADERS OF THE PACK: Andy Marte is tied for fourth in the league in home runs with four. The Indians Ryan Doumit is tied for the IL lead with six. Seth Greisinger dropped out of the league's top 10 in ERA but is still tied for the IL lead in wins with two. He is tied for second in innings pitched. Esix Snead remains tied for second in stolen bases with five. The Indians Mark Corey is tied for the league lead in saves (three). Indy's Nate McLouth is one of six players in the IL with two triples. The Braves pitching staff leads the league in walks. Indianapolis is tied for second.
WEB GEMS: The Braves have played errorless baseball in six of their last seven games. Richmond has committed only four errors in their first 13 games, well below the pace of last season's club record for fewest errors (97). The Braves led the International League in fielding percentage in 2004.
ONE IS THE LONELIEST NUMBER: 10 of the Braves 12 home runs have been solo shots.. Richmond's last six homers have come with nobody on. Richmond has yet to hit a three-run or grand slam home run.
ON THE DL: Braves outfielders Bill McCarthy (ankle) and Esix Snead (quadriceps) are on the disabled list.
