Calgary Stampeders News Release
The Calgary Stampeders have signed national defensive lineman Quinn Smith. The three-year veteran from Concordia University had been eligible to become a free agent in February.
Smith played 10 games in 2016 including four starts at defensive tackle. He recorded 10 tackles, three sacks and two knockdowns. He also served as the emergency backup at offensive line and was dressed as the sixth offensive lineman for the Grey Cup game.
In 2015, Smith played a total of 17 games including six appearances on offence when injuries depleted Calgary's offensive line.
"Quinn has to potential to grow as a player and I believe the best is yet to come," said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. "His ability to play on both sides of the ball has been a great asset to us over the past two seasons."
Smith joined the Stampeders in 2014 after being a first-round selection (seventh overall) in that year's draft. He has played 38 career regular-season games and has accumulated 26 tackles and eight sacks. He has also played four playoff contests and appeared in two Grey Cup games, helping the Stamps win a title in 2014.
"I'm very pleased to be back with the Red and White," said Smith. "It's a family I want to be a part of for a long time. I fell in love with the city and we have the best fans in the league."
