Quick Hits: NAHL Game Nine Preview

October 10, 2018 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights News Release

After splitting a weekend with the Titans, the Wilkes-barre/Scranton Knights (3-4-1, 7pts.) start a five game home stand Thursday afternoon, beginning with the Northeast Generals (3-3, 6pts.), marking the first engagement between the teams this season.

The two East Division clubs will meet 14 times this year. Thursday will be the first of six to take place at Revolution Ice Centre, and begins a three game, three day schedule against the Generals.

Last Time Out

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton dropped a 3-0 decision to the New Jersey Titans Saturday night after previously besting the team Friday, 2-1. Samuel Vyletelka was in net for the Knights Saturday and was the highlight player for his team, stopping 43 shots.

Meanwhile, Northeast skates into Thursday after winning their recent game against the Maryland Black Bears, 4-2 on Sunday. Like the Knights, the Generals also had a weekend split, with Maryland winning the previous night.

Now That's Commitment

Earlier this season, Knights' forward Lincoln Hatten made his commitment to D1 Army. The Generals have seen two players make their collegiate decisions also, with John Jaworski committed to Sacred Heart and Brady Gaudette heading north to the University of Maine (D1). Both announcements came earlier this week. Janworski has four points (2G-2A) with Northeast this season, while Gaudette checks in with three points (1G-2A). Both are forwards and to this point have each played in all six Generals' games during the 2018-19 campaign.

Together, the two clubs combine for 13 college committed players on their rosters. The knights enjoy a slight edge, having eight of those commitments on their team.

Look Out For Louis

Last week, Knights' goalie Zack Stejskal recieved recognition as the NAHL's East Division Star of the Week. This time around, Generals' forward Louis Boudon got the nod. The forward tallied five points in two games last weekend for Northeast and leads his team in points with 10. Boudon put up 49 points in 51 games a season ago and has 142 points combined between his time in both the NA3HL and the NAHL.

For What It's Worth

Shay Donovan's next game with the Knights will be his 50th regular season contest dawning the gray and blue. Luke Robinson leads the way for most games played among active blue liners for Wilkes-Barre with 64, though Donovan also spent time with Coulee Region and Minnesota, bringing his overall NAHL regular season game total to 103.

Center Gabe Temple leads Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in scoring with seven points (3G-4A). Sacha Guillemain trails his fellow forward by one, and is followed by Tyrone Bronte, Jacob Badal, and Jake Fuss, who have each registered three points this year.

The Generals have the fewest games played in the NAHL with six to this point, and also lead the league by a wide margin for fewest penalty minutes with 46. In the Central division, Springfield comes closest with 72 PIM.

Thursday will be Northeast's first road game of the season, minus the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN. The knights and Generals are the only game scheduled for Thursday in the NAHL.
