DUBUQUE, Iowa- Thanks to two quick second period goals, the Dubuque Fighting Saints are one win away from advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals. In front of a home crowd of 2,524, the Fighting Saints captured a 4-3 win over the Muskegon Lumberjacks Friday night to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Conference Semifinals playoff series.

Muskegon handed Dubuque four powerplays in the game's opening frame including a 5-on-3 man-advantage for 1:40. The Fighting Saints capitalized on the two-man advantage on a blast from forward Peter Quenneville. The Fighting Saints worked the puck back to Quenneville at the top of the left faceoff circle and the 30-goal scorer fired home his first strike of the playoffs at 12:24. With Mike Szmatula screening Muskegon goalie Kevin Lindskoug in front of the goal, Quenneville's shot put the Fighting Saints up 1-0. Frankie DiChiara and Niklas Nevalainen assisted on the goal.

Muskegon only recorded three shots in the first period but converted on a giveaway behind the Fighting Saints goal. The puck hopped on Dubuque's Jarrid Privitera and Muskegon's Christian Heil stole it away, wrapping the puck from behind the goal, between Fighting Saints goalie Arthur Brey's pads to make it 1-1 at 14:23.

The second period saw the Fighting Saints strike three times including a pair of late tallies that came in rapid succession and broke open the game. First, the two teams traded goals, with Evan Janssen connection on a beautiful passing play from Jarrid Privitera and Joe Manno at 4:33. The Lumberjacks would tie the game at 14:13 on a quick shot by Fredrick Tiffels that snuck between Brey's blocker and the post to even the score at two goals.

Late in the second period was where the game changed in a blink of an eye in favor of the Fighting Saints. Karson Kuhlman scored his third goal in as many games and second tally of the playoffs at 17:58. Frankie DiChaira and Shane Sooth connected with Kuhlman on a beautiful passing play. Kuhlman camped in the low slot and fired a one-timer through Lindskoug's five-hole to make it 3-2. Second later at 18:24, Dubuque doubled its lead. A former baseball player, Peter Quenneville hit a homerun, knocking the puck out of mid-air on a rebound past Lindskoug near the right post to make it 4-2 Fighting Saints. Quenneville's second goal of the game was assisted by Dylan Gambrell.

Muskegon made the game interesting with a goal with only 1:02 remaining in the third period on a deflection from Jeff Kubiak to make it 4-3. Muskegon pulled the goalie late, but couldn't tie the game as the Fighting Saints held on for the victory.

Brey won his second straight playoff start and notched 14 saves for the Fighting Saints. After scoring two powerplay goals in Game 1, the Fighting Saints finished Friday evening at 1-for-5 on the powerplay while the Lumberjacks went 0-for-3.
