Atlantic City Surf News Release

Atlantic City, N.J. - Orlando Trias, Ivan Blanco and Jason Schutt combined on a four-hitter as the Quebec Capitales defeated the Atlantic City Surf, 6-0, in Game Four of the Can-Am League first round series between the two clubs at Bernie Robbins Stadium on Sunday evening. With the victory, the Capitales win the series three games to one and advance to the best-of-five league finals against the Sussex Skyhawks, starting Tuesday night in Augusta, N.J. Sussex advanced to the finals with a 8-6 come-from-behind win over the Worcester Tornadoes on Sunday.

Quebec started off with a pair of runs in the second inning on 1B Eddie Lantigua's leadoff blast over the left-field wall and an RBI single by SS Issael Gonzalez. The Capitales added to their lead in the fourth when LF Alex Nunez scored on a wild pitch, and tallied two more on 3B Patrick Deschenes' fifth-inning, two-run single. The final run came in the sixth, when Nunez scored an unearned run after reaching on an error.

It was plenty of offense for starter Trias (2-0), who pitched seven innings, limiting Atlantic City to two hits and fanning five. Blanco and Schutt each threw a scoreless inning of relief. For the Surf, starter Charlie Rudd (0-1) picked up the loss, giving up five earned runs in five and two-thirds innings. J.C. Huguet, Walker Whitley and Tony Pierce held Quebec to no runs on one hit in three and one-third innings out of the bullpen.

Nunez, coming off a 5-for-5 evening on Friday, once again paced the Capitales' attack, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. He was the only player on either team with more than one hit. For the Surf, 3B Gil Zayas, LF Joe Burke, C William Plaza, RF Josh Burrus each had singles.

The season marked the second straight year in which Atlantic City reached the Can-Am League playoffs. In 2007, the club lost to North Shore in the first round, 3 games to 1. Quebec did not qualify for the playoffs in 2007, but defeated Brockton for the league crown in 2006.
