Quebec Capitales manager Darren Bush has been hired by the Oakland Athletics organization, and will serve as the hitting coach for class-A Stockton of the California League during the 2005 season.
During the 2004 season, Bush led the Caps to a league-best 58-34 record, including a sizzling 34-12 second-half mark, before bowing to North Shore in the North Division finals.
Previously, the Dunedin, Florida, resident managed the Berkshire Black Bears of the defunct Northeast League in 2003 and the Western League's Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox in 2002. He played professionally in the Philadelphia and San Diego organizations from 1996 to 2001.
"We're sorry to lose Darren, but this is a tremendous opportunity for him, and we wish him well," said Capitales president Miles Wolff.
Bush is the seventh Quebec field personnel to be acquired by an affiliated organization this season, following pitchers Chuck Crumpton (Montreal), Jeff Harris (Seattle), Paul Jacinto (San Diego), Paul Abraham (San Diego), Alex Santos (Oakland), and Ben Grezlovski (St. Louis).
