New Jersey Jackals News Release
Little Falls, NJ - The Quebec Les Capitales led from start to finish, and punished the New Jersey Jackals 13-1 in the first game of a three game series. Quebec improved their record to 7-0 against the Jackals in 2005.
Eddie Lantigua picked up where he left off in early June against the Jackals. Lantigua belted his 21st homerun of the season, and seventh against New Jersey, in the bottom of the first. The two run shot put Quebec on the board first. A Danny Scalabrini RBI single in the following inning made it 3-0 in favor of Les Capitales.
New Jersey finally got up on the scoreboard against Marcos Castillo in the sixth. Sandy Madera grounded into a fielder's choice that allowed Zack Smithlin to cross home plate, cutting the Quebec lead to 3-1. But Quebec would quickly regain the run. Olivier Lepine homered in the bottom half of the inning, a solo shot, making the score 4-1 in favor of Quebec.
Quebec put the dagger in the hearts of New Jersey in the bottom of the seventh. An RBI single by Geofrey Tomlinson and a two RBI single by Buck McNabb put Les Capitales ahead to stay 7-1
Once again, the New Jersey bullpen allowed the opposition to fatten their lead. Quebec added six more in the bottom of the eighth, to take a 13-1 lead, and that's the way it ended. Tomlinson and McNabb both walked with the bases loaded, pushing across runs and Benoit Emond scored on a wild pitch. Bill Greenwell added two runs on single, and Simon Legare also pushed across a run on a single.
Les Capitales starter Marcos Castillo started the ballgame off on fire. Through three innings of work, he allowed only one hit, walked none, and punched out five Jackals. He ended up getting the win, his sixth overall in 2005. He went eight innings for Quebec, scattering three hits, and surrendering only one earned run. Isaac Pavlik suffered the loss in six and two thirds innings pitched. He allowed seven earned runs, on 11 hits, while striking out seven.
