Quarterback Showdown: Jeff Garcia vs. Daunte Culpepper Saturday
September 28, 2010 - United Football League (UFL 1)
Sacramento Mountain Lions News Release
Week 3 United Football League action in Omaha, Nebraska, on Saturday night has plenty of star power to it.
The anticipated clash between the host Omaha Nighthawks (1-0) and visiting Sacramento Mountain Lions (1-1) at Rosenblatt Stadium features the most exciting quarterback matchup in United Football League history. It is arguably the best quarterback matchup in all of professional football this weekend.
Omaha Nighthawks signal caller JEFF GARCIA squares off against DAUNTE CULPEPPER and the Sacramento Mountain Lions Saturday, October 2, at Rosenblatt Stadium at 7.30pm CDT / 8.30pm EDT, live on HDNet.
In the first game in franchise history, the Nighthawks played to a sellout 23,067 crowd on September 24.
In one corner stands Garcia, a cruiserweight at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds - the consummate over-achiever and a flat-out winner. In the other corner waits Culpepper, a heavyweight at 6-foot-4 and 260 pounds - the prototypical strong-armed gunslinger who can turn into a down-field tank on scrambles.
Last week as the Nighthawks made their UFL debut in Omaha, Garcia drove his new team down the field, going 5-of-8 for 45 yards and running for 14 more yards in just 2:37.
Garcia's 12-yard touchdown pass to Robert Ferguson, another of Omaha's seemingly countless veterans, with just six seconds left in regulation sent fans, coaches and players alike into a frenzy.
Ferguson a former Green Bay Packer, celebrated with a `Rosenblatt Leap' into the delirious crowd. Listen to the drive: http://www.ufl-football.com/news/september-24-2010-start-something-big-nighthawks-ufl.
Culpepper hit wide receiver Rod Windsor for a 33-yard touchdown pass and his second touchdown reception of the night with 31 seconds remaining to give the host Mountain Lions a memorable home opener win in front of an estimated 20,000 fans at Hornet Stadium. The score capped a wild fourth quarter in which Culpepper-inspired Sacramento scored 17 points.
It isn't quite Ali vs. Frazier, but it is the Rumble at Rosenblatt
