Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes completed their first sweep of the 2010 season, downing the Lancaster JetHawks by a score of 5-4 on Thursday night at The Epicenter.

Alexi Amarista's RBI single to left-center field in the bottom of the eighth inning scored Rian Kiniry to put the Quakes ahead to stay, giving them their fourth straight win and wrapping up a 4-3 home stand.

Kiniry doubled down the right-field line to open the eighth inning against Lancaster reliever Ashton Mowdy (1-2). Adam Younger was then asked to sacrifice Kiniry to third. Younger's bunt went back to the mound, but Mowdy's throw to third was late, as runners were safe at first and third. After a steal of second by Younger, the JetHawks intentionally walked Jake Rife, loading the bases for Wednesday's hero, Tyson Auer. Lancaster turned to their bullpen, bringing in right-hander Kyle Godfrey, who fanned Auer for the first out of the inning. Amarista followed with the go-ahead hit though, as his run-scoring single put the Quakes ahead 5-4.

Nick Pugliese (1-1), who came on in the eighth, remained in the game and fired a 1-2-3 ninth inning, including strikeouts of the final two hitters to earn his first win of the year.

The Quakes took an early lead against Lancaster starter Brad Dydalewicz, as Gabe Jacobo's two-run single put them on the board at 2-0.

Lancaster responded with two in the second, but Rancho retook the lead in the bottom of the inning, as Amarista delivered his first of three hits, an RBI double to plate Auer, making it 3-2.

The Quakes took a two-run lead in the fifth, as Darwin Perez's RBI triple scored Jacobo, making it a 4-2 contest.

Lancaster got even against Quakes' starting pitcher Matt Shoemaker in the seventh. Shoemaker was cruising along before walking Brandon Wikoff with two outs in the seventh. Josh Flores followed by blasting his first home run of the year, tying the game at 4-4.

Roberto Lopez finished the game 0-for-4, bringing an end to his Cal League-best hitting streak of 25 consecutive games.

The Quakes (19-16) match their longest winning streak of the year with their fourth straight win, but remain three games back of Lake Elsinore in the South Division. Manaurys Correa (0-5) looks for his first "W" of the season on Friday, as the Quakes travel to San Bernardino to face the Inland Empire 66ers at 7:05pm. The Quakes return from their seven-game road trip on Friday, May 21st, as they host Inland Empire for a four-game home stand. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at The Epicenter very soon. Go Quakes!
