Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

Bakersfield, CA - The Quakes' post-season hopes took a couple of damaging blows on Sunday evening, as Rancho's 10-5 loss to the Bakersfield Blaze and a Lake Elsinore Storm win over Inland Empire leaves the Quakes and the Storm tied for the final Wild Card spot with just one game remaining in the regular season.

Bakersfield starter Stalin Gerson pitched five solid innings and the Blaze offense roughed up Garrett Gould for five runs in less than three innings of work in a win over the Quakes at Sam Lynn Ballpark.

Gould (5-10) struggled in his last appearance of the regular season, giving up four in the first inning, capped by Dominic D'Anna's two-run blast to make it 4-0 after just one frame.

The Blaze got two more in the third and chased Gould with two outs, building a 6-0 lead.

Rancho got their one and only run off of Stalin (2-1) in the fourth, as Austin Gallagher tripled and scored on an Angelo Songco sac fly, making it 6-1.

Bakersfield got some insurance against the Quakes' bullpen, picking up a run against Eammon Portice in the sixth and three more in the eighth against Bret Montgomery, making it 10-1.

Chris Jacobs and Jonathan Garcia played some long-ball in the ninth inning, as the Quakes tallied four runs to round out the scoring. Jacobs blasted a three-run shot, his 17th of the year and Garcia followed with his 12th, making it 10-5 against Blaze reliever Brooks Pinckard. Pinckard would settle down and retire the next three hitters, ending the Quakes' attempt at a rally.

The Quakes (68-71) and Storm (68-71) are now tied with identical records with only one game to go in the regular season. Rancho will send left-hander Onelki Garcia (0-0) to the mound in his pro debut on Monday afternoon against Blaze righthander Tim Crabbe (4-2). Game time on Monday is a special Labor Day start time of 1:15pm.

Should the Quakes clinch a playoff spot in Bakersfield on Monday afternoon, playoff tickets will go on sale online at rcquakes.com and over the phone at (909) 481-5000 on Tuesday morning at 10am. Fans that are Quakes' ticket package holders will not have the opportunity to purchase your same seats online, instead they will be available for purchase by calling (909) 481-5000 or at The Epicenter Ticket Office.

We thank all of the 160,000+ fans that visited The Epicenter over the course of the 70-game home schedule this season. We hope to see you for the 2012 California League Playoffs. Go Quakes!
