Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Quakes had right hander Tommy Mendoza on the hill and he set an impressive tempo in the first inning retiring the side in order. Inning two was a different story, as with one out Mendoza allowed back to back hits, the latter an RBI double by Brian Joynt to take a 1-0 lead. With two outs and runner at second Jeremy Hunt hit a deep fly to right that was misplayed by Anthony Norman and was ruled an error to let the second run come across to lead 2-0.
Rancho answered in the third as Norman singled to lead off the inning and was followed by a double by Peter Bourjos to put runners on second and third. Major league rehabber Erick Aybar then doubled to score both to tie the game 2-2. After a fly out to right got Aybar to third with one out, Mark Trumbo grounded out to score the run and take a 3-2 lead.
Lake Elsinore bounced right back in the fourth scoring two runs, one on a bases loaded base hit by Kellen Kulbacki and an RBI sacrifice fly by Jesus Lopez to take a 4-3 lead.
The Storm answered with another run in the 6th on a lead off double by Joynt and a two out RBI single by Lopez to give Lake Elsinore a 5-3 lead.
Rancho came back in the 6th with a lead off solo home run by Ryan Mount to make the score 5-4, but that's as close as the Quakes would get. The Quakes did not have a hit in the final three innings against the Storm bullpen.
Bobby Cassevah was excellent out of the bullpen for the Quakes throwing three scoreless innings, with his only blemish coming on a two out walk in the 8th. Cassevah struck out three.
The Quakes will give Amalio Diaz the baseball Tuesday night against right hander Ernesto Frieri of the Storm. Diaz has won four of his last five games. Game time is scheduled for 7:05pm.
