Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA- Tommy Mendoza started on the bump for the Quakes and was lights out through five innings allowing just an unearned run in the first inning. He hit a road bump in the sixth after a single by Gerardo Parra, he stole second and scored on an RBI base hit by Ed Easley, his second RBI hit of the night. Two batters later, Brad Miller singled to center scoring Easley to give Visalia a 3-0 lead.
Mendoza ended up going six innings allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits and struck out five.
The Quakes had a tough time getting the big two out hit Friday night. In three innings, the second, fifth and sixth, Rancho had a runner at third base with two outs and could not collect a run until the seventh. After back to back singles from Drew Toussaint and Larry Infante and a walk to Anthony Norman with one out, Oaks starter Cesar Valdez was lifted for reliever Kyler Newby. Newby allowed a sacrifice fly to Alberto Rosario to plate the only run for the Quakes.
Valdez went 6.1 innings allowing one run on five hits, walked one and struck out three to earn his second win of the season.
Rancho will host Visalia for game three of the four game series Saturday night at 7:05pm. Amalio Diaz starts for the Quakes and Chase Christianson goes for the Oaks.
