Quakes Drop Second Straight Home Game to 66ers

Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes dropped their second straight home game on Monday night, falling to the Inland Empire 66ers by a final of 5-3 at The Epicenter.

The Quakes lost more than the game on Monday, as they also lost a pair of outfielders due to injury.

Ramon Jean (sprained ankle) and Anthony Jackson (lacerated hand) were involved in a collision in right field, with both leaving the game in the top of the sixth inning. Both injuries appear to be minor however, as both players are currently day-to-day.

Inland Empire took a 3-0 lead in the second inning, picking up three runs and five hits against Quakes' starter Andres Santiago. Matt Long's RBI single put the 66ers on the board, while Michael Wing's two-run hit made it a 3-0 game.

Angelo Songco connected for his third home run in his last four games and team-leading 20th of the year, a solo shot in the bottom of the second to make it 3-1.

The 66ers added a run in the third against Santiago (6-3), thanks to a Dwayne Bailey RBI double, making it 4-1.

The Quakes got a run back in the third on an Austin Gallagher RBI single to right, bringing them to within two at 4-2. On the hit though, Pedro Guerrero was thrown out at the plate, on a great throw by Long in right field.

Rancho picked up another run in the sixth, as they loaded the bases with no outs against starter Ariel Pena (9-3). Tony Delmonico's RBI single to left scored Nick Buss to make it 4-3. But with the bases loaded and no outs, that's as close as the Quakes got, as a base-running mistake cost them an out and left the tying run at third.

Kole Calhoun singled with one out in the seventh against Quakes' reliever Jordan Roberts, later scoring on a fielder's choice to put Inland Empire up by two at 5-3.

That would be enough for the 66ers' bullpen, who retired all nine Quakes they faced over three perfect innings. Former Quake Matt Oye worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his fourth save of the year.

The Quakes (18-13, 56-45) will take Tuesday off, then travel to Lake Elsinore to being a seven-game road trip against the first-place Storm. JonMichael Redding (7-5) will take on Andrew Werner (3-0) in the series-opener on Wednesday at 6:05pm.

On Wednesday, August 3rd, the Quakes return to The Epicenter to open a four-game series against Modesto. August 3rd will be another Terra Vista Animal Hospital Bark in the Ballpark.
