Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Tony Gonsolin tossed five scoreless innings and Jeren Kendall hit Rancho's first grand slam of the year, as the Quakes defeated the Lake Elsinore Storm by a score of 6-2 on Thursday night at The Diamond, giving them two of three in the series.
Kendall's grand slam was also his first home run of the year, as he staked the Quakes to a 4-0 lead against Storm starter Ronald Bolanos.
On the other side, Gonsolin enjoyed his finest outing of the year, as he allowed just three hits and one walk while fanning five batters over his five scoreless frames to net the win.
The Quakes added another in the third against Bolanos (0-3), as Omar Estevez doubled home Connor Wong for a 5-0 advantage.
Wong belted a solo-shot down the left-field line in the fifth, putting Rancho in front by six.
Chris Mathewson came on for Gonsolin (1-1) in the sixth and surrendered a two-run homer to Mike Zunica, as the Storm pulled to within four at 6-2. Mathewson got out of the sixth and pitched into the ninth, before Stetson Allie earned the final two outs to close down Rancho's fourth win of the six-game road trip.
The Quakes (16-18) will send Jordan Sheffield (0-3) to the mound on Friday, as they host the Visalia Rawhide in a four-game series at LoanMart Field. Visalia will go with Riley Smith (1-2) in the opener, which will begin at 7:05pm.
Friday will be Family RV $1 Family Feast Night, featuring hot dogs, Pepsi products and ice cream sandwiches for just one dollar each. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon...Go Quakes!
