Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
(Davenport, IA) - The arenafootball2 league announced today that Quad City defensive specialist Ty Ardoin was named the ADT Defensive Player of the Week for his performance on July 8 against the Tennessee Valley Vipers.
"In my 12 years as a coach I have never given a game ball to a defensive player," said head coach Rick Frazier. "(Ty) Ardoin's performance in the last game I believe was deserving of a game ball. He led both teams in tackles and had two fumble recoveries along with a pick. That's a potential 42 point swing because it is 21 points we had a chance to get and 21 points they couldn't get. I believe that effort is worth a game ball and I am glad to see he was also recognized as the league's defensive player of the week."
The Steamwheelers defeated the Vipers 59-21 in part to Ardoin's stellar defensive play. Ardoin led the team in total tackles with nine, all of which were solo tackles. The 6-foot-0, 200 pounder also recovered two key fumbles and picked a Vipers pass for what would have been a touchdown and returned it four yards. He also tallied three pass breakups.
Ardoin was assigned to the Quad City Steamwheelers on June 8th and has appeared in all four games since joining the team. In four games he has moved up the tackle chart to sixth on the team with 20.5 total tackles.
