Prentiss joins af2 700-point club
SOUTHAVEN --- Look in the af2 record book and you will find Memphis Xplorers Offensive Specialist Kevin Prentiss prominently listed in several categories. In one of those categories, most points scored, the fourth year player passed the elite 700 point plateau in last Saturday's game at Louisville.
Prentiss scored 18 points on three touchdown catches in the game to increase his career total to 714. He is the fifth player to accomplish this feat, joining Cainon Lamb (756); Mitch Allner (780); Kevin Williams (790) and Magic Benton (812). Williams and Benton are active players.
Prentiss put up big numbers in the game with 12 receptions for 149 yards and the three scores. The game was the sixth of his career with double-digit catches as well as his 22nd 100 yard receiving game.
That performance also moved him to 5th on the af2 receiving yards list with 4611, 6th on the touchdown receptions list with 104 and 4th on the total touchdowns scored list with 119. The former Mississippi State Bulldog also sits 10th in receptions with 303, first in kickoff return touchdowns with 14 and second in kick off return yardage at 3517.
That number two standing on the kick off return list could change as soon as this week. Prentiss is just 56 yards shy of all-time leader Shadrick McAfee, who played mostly with Bossier-Shreveport.
In a season that started late for him, Prentiss has 48 receptions for 654 yards and 11 touchdowns in six games. Prentiss began the year on the roster of the Las Vegas Gladiators of the AFL, but was waived in February after two games. He rejoined the Xplorers in May and played his first game on May 20 versus Bossier-Shreveport.
Prentiss wasn't the only one to make a move in the af2 record book last Saturday. Two-time All-af2 OL/DL Joseph Crear picked up a career-high two sacks in the loss at Louisville to run his season total to an also career-high 7.5. His career sack total is a franchise-best 22; good for 9th on the league's all-time list. Crear, who is a former Mississippi Valley State Delta Devil and a Moss Point, MS native, is in his fourth season with the Xplorers.
The Xplorers will be looking to snap a two game losing streak this Saturday when they host the Amarillo Dusters at the DeSoto Civic Center at 7 pm.
