QB Clancy, De LaGrone Assigned to Blaze

Utah Blaze News Release
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze announced they have been assigned quarterback Colin Clancy and defensive end Matt LaGrone. Both players practiced with the team on Monday and participated in Tuesday night's intersquad scrimmage through pairs of one-day waivers. The signings mark the fourth and fifth "two-day" prospects the Blaze have keep in the past two weeks.
"The high volume of quality football players available this offseason has been remarkable," said President & Head Coach Ron James. "At the same time, many talented athletes are recognizing that the Utah Blaze are one of the best teams in the league when it comes to affording players an opportunity to earn a roster spot. Both Colin Clancy and Matt LaGrone have fought through training camp to prove they deserve a contract."
Clancy (6-4, 210, Colorado State-Pueblo) spent the past two seasons overseas while playing for the Monchengladbach Mavericks of the German Football League (GFL). Collegiately, he played at Santa Monica College and Central Oklahoma before landing at Colorado State-Pueblo for his senior season, where he played alongside current Blaze wide receiver Augustine Agyei. Clancy first caught the attention of the Blaze staff during a private workout in January, and was invited back to training camp this week.
LaGrone (6-6, 270, Oregon State) has taken a more interesting path to the Arena Football League. After a standout career on the hardwood at McQueen High School (NV), he earned a full basketball scholarship to the University of Nevada, where he helped the team to consecutive WAC Championship in 2007 and 2008. After two seasons at Nevada, LaGrone decided to give up basketball and walked on to the football program at Oregon State University.
Per NCAA transfer rules, LaGrone was forced to sit out the 2008 season, but still earned Co-Defensive Scout Team MVP honors while redshirting. He played in all 13 games the following year and delivered 28 tackles, one assisted sack, four tackles for loss, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one quarterback hurry. LaGrone left the team prior to spring practice in 2010 due to personal reasons.
