PULASKI, VA - The Mariners put reading on their list before baseball for the last two days as players made appearances at the Radford and Pulaski Libraries for story time. Eight Mariner players in particular showcased their love for reading during story time for local children on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Infielders Bryan Brito and Jordy Lara, utility man Gilmer Lampe, and pitcher Domingo Brazoban, all Latin American-born players, were on hand to read (in Spanish) popular children's books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? to an attentive bunch of youngsters and their parents at the Radford Library Tuesday morning. Afterwards, the attendees and the players happily took part in numerous songs and dances, as well as arts and crafts.
This morning it was four different players at the Pulaski Library for their weekly story time. In attendance were pitchers David Holman, Nick Valenza, Blake Holovach, and catcher Toby DeMello. They read popular children's books such as Where the Wild Things Are and Green Eggs and Ham. The players also conversed with the attendees, answered questions, and signed autographs.
The readings were the first two of a series of story times with different Mariner players this summer to be featured in both Radford and Pulaski at each respective public library. Tentative dates for future story times are July 12th at the Pulaski Library, and July 24th at the Radford Library; both beginning at 11:00am.
