Pulaski River Turtles News Release
After weathering the storm last night, the Pulaski Yankees dropped its first two games of the season against the Danville Braves losing 14-6 and 2-1 in front of a crowd of 1,860 at Historic Calfee Park Friday night. Both teams will face off in the opening series finale tonight at 7 p.m.
The doubleheader picked up where last night's game left off: the bottom of the fourth with one out, a runner on base, and the Braves leading the Yankees 5-3. However, Pulaski looked to chip away at the lead the next inning with Welfrin Mateo hopping aboard after being hit with a pitch. A throwing error allowed him to move to third before scoring on a wild pitch. In the sixth, Pulaski pulled ahead plating two runs after both Leonardo Molina and Dermis Garcia drew walks before scoring on a Mateo sac fly and Estevan Florial double to make it 6-5.
Danville tied the game in the eighth but opened the game wide open in the ninth starting a hit parade that led to eight runs. The Braves were able to hold Pulaski and seal a 14-6 win.
Corbin Clouse picked up the win for Danville pitching for one inning and striking out one. Braden Bristo was tagged with his first loss of the season pitching for 1/3 of an inning allowing five hits and five runs.
The Yankees found themselves in a hole early on in game two with the Braves plating their only runs of the game in the first inning. Pulaski was then no-hit as Luis Gamez sat down the first eight batters before hitting hometown hero Josh Gardiner with a pitch. However, it wouldn't be until the next inning when the Yankees would get on the board. Ben Ruta broke up the no-hitter with a single up the middle before stealing second. A single from Dermis Garcia brought him home to cut the lead in half. Despite getting five more runners aboard, Pulaski was unable to bring them home and dropped game two 2-1.
Luis Gamez picks up his first win of the season pitching for six innings allowing three hits and one run while walking one and striking out three. Zach Rice gets his first save of the season pitching for one inning striking out two and walking two. Pulaski starter Rafael Lara is tagged with his first loss of the season pitching for five innings allowing two hits and two runs while striking out four and walking three.
